First Four Internationalized Domain Names Pass Key Approval Milestone

Marina del Rey, CA (Vocus) January 22, 2010

ICANN today approved the first four internationalized top-level domain names. Egypt, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have passed the language character (string) evaluation, intended to avoid confusion with other top level domain names. These countries may now request that their Internet names be included in the Internet domain names root system, so they can be accessed by all users globally by mid-2010.

These international names will now allow people to type entire domain names in their own language. This marks a pivotal moment in the history of Internet domain names, said ICANN CEO and President Rod Beckstrom.

Sixteen applications in eight languages have been received. More are anticipated.

About ICANN:

To reach another person on the Internet you have to type an address into your computer - a name or a number. That address has to be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN coordinates these unique identifiers across the world. Without that coordination we wouldn't have one global Internet. ICANN was formed in 1998. It is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internets unique identifiers. ICANN doesnt control content on the Internet. It cannot stop spam and it doesnt deal with access to the Internet. But through its coordination role of the Internets naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet. Lifehacker Names uTorrent the Best BitTorrent Client for Mac

Ottawa, Ontario (PRWEB) November 02, 2011

Macadamian, a global leader in software product creation, today announced popular blog and review site Lifehacker named uTorrent, an application developed by BitTorrent in conjunction with Macadamian, as the best BitTorrent client for Mac. Lifehacker's The App Directory, a new and growing directory of recommendations for the best applications and tools, cited uTorrents great feature set, admirable flexibility, overall speed as reasons for this win.

uTorrent is a freeware, closed source client owned by BitTorrent, Inc using the BitTorrent peer to peer protocol for distributing files in small pieces without the need for centralized data centers. It is the most widely used BitTorrent client outside China with over 100M users. Originally limited to the Microsoft Windows Platform, BitTorrent engaged Macadamian to create a Mac OS X version of its popular client.

"We knew Macadamian had a history of developing commercial products for Mac OS X and we felt we would be able to get uTorrent to market faster by working with a firm with that kind of experience," says BitTorrents Vice President of Engineering, Ilan Shamir. "Macadamian was clearly the right partner for this project."

To meet the requirements of both BitTorrent and the Mac user community, Macadamian employed its proprietary visual design and agile development processes to ensure that the interface would behave precisely in the way that Mac users expect.

Lifehacker's App Directory reviewed several BitTorrent clients for Mac before choosing uTorrent as the winner. The site, which receives roughly 20 million visitors a month, is a leading online source for lifestyle improvement and enhancement of the online experience.
